About Hawaii Incorporated

Hawaii Incorporated is a sweeping historical fiction series set in the Republic of Hawaii. It blends politics, family drama, and global intrigue into a multi-generational saga told through the voice of Michael Smith, a former Michigan football player who becomes private secretary to Prime Minister Rob Goddard and trusted consigliere to the Goddard family.

At the heart of the series is the Goddard family. They are a dynasty of missionaries, warriors, and technocrats. Each generation fights to shape the destiny of the Republic while grappling with ambition, secrecy, and betrayal.

Book 1: Paradise Gained (1965 to 1989)
The series begins in 1965, as Prime Minister Rob Goddard faces a direct threat from President Lyndon Johnson that could destroy Hawaiian sovereignty. With Cold War tensions rising and Asia gaining strength, Rob joins forces with his wife Sally, his brother Keller, and a trusted group of insiders. Together, they work to transform Hawaii into a neutral and self-reliant island republic. Told through the eyes of Michael Smith, Paradise Gained explores the roots of the Goddard legacy and examines the cost of power, loyalty, and ambition.

Book 2: Hotspot (1989 to 2008)
Rob and Sally’s youngest son, Bobby, rises to national prominence. He is propelled by his mother’s support and by the public’s growing hunger for justice. As Attorney General, Bobby targets elite corruption in high-profile investigations. Behind the scenes, he plays rival factions against each other to gain political advantage. His ambition reshapes the global financial order and sets the stage for his meteoric rise. When scandal erupts, Bobby becomes both a symbol of reform and a scapegoat for the global financial collapse.

Book 3: Caldera (1989 to 2008)
Molly Goddard, the family’s middle child and intellectual dissident, offers her perspective on the same period. As an academic and public critic, she challenges Hawaii’s ruling elite through fearless scholarship, strategic alliances, and moral confrontation. Her lectures on colonial legacy and cultural power electrify students and provoke fierce backlash from the establishment. Beneath the surface, Molly wrestles with her spiritual instincts, which often clash with the academic and political worlds she inhabits. Praised abroad and vilified at home, she becomes a lightning rod for protest and dissent. As old institutions begin to falter, she is uniquely positioned to help shape the emerging post-globalized world.

Book 4: Fissure (1989 to 2008)
Jack Goddard is the reluctant heir to his family’s power. While Bobby rises and Molly confronts the establishment, Jack tries to remain detached from politics. But the truth about his first wife’s mysterious death, his second wife’s ambitions, and his mother’s buried secrets eventually surfaces. Jack must decide whether to carry forward the Goddard legacy or step into leadership on his own terms.

Book 5 (and possibly 6 or even 7): Paradise Disrupted (2008 to the present day)
As globalization unravels, the Republic of Hawaii turns inward. First challenged by Web 2.0 and later by the disruptive force of artificial intelligence, Hawaii must choose how to adapt without compromising its soul. With the old order collapsing and a new generation coming of age, the nation faces its most urgent question yet. Can paradise be protected without being lost?
